My Wholesome Chocolate Cake Recipe

Chocolate Cake

Dry Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

 

      1/2 cup (55 g) Wheat Flour

      1 1/3 cup (155 g) All Purpose Flour

      1 tsp Coffee Grains

      1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder

      1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda

      1 tsp Salt

      3/4 cups (60 g) Cocoa Powder

      3/4 cups Chocolate Chips

 

      2 Large Eggs

      1/8 cup (30 g) Apple Sauce

      1 1/4 cups (240 g) Sugar

      1/2 cup (110 g) Avocado Oil

      2 tsp Vanilla Extract

      1 cup (240 ml) Whole Milk

      1/3 cup (70 ml) Hot Water

 

 

 

Instructions:

1.      Turn on the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.      Spray 2 8-inch cake pans with nonstick spray.

3.      In a medium sized bowl, add all of the dry ingredients, including the chocolate chips.

4.      Mix all of the dry ingredients until they are combined.

5.      In a separate bowl, crack the eggs into the bowl, and scramble.

6.      Add the apple sauce, sugar, oil, vanilla and milk to the bowl with the eggs.

7.      Mix all of the wet ingredients until they are combined.

8.      Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, while mixing.

9.      Pour the hot water into the mixture, after all ingredients are mixed well.

10.   Pour the mixture into the cake pans.

11.   Place the pans in the center of the oven.

12.   Bake for 23-25 minutes for the cakes.

13.   Test to be sure the cake is done with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out of the center

with just a few crumbs, that is when it is done.


Ingredient Explanations:

 

Whole Wheat Flour – Adds a deeper flavor and more nutrients (i.e.: protein, fiber)

Unbleached Unenriched All-Purpose Flour – Adds tenderness to the baked good, make sure it is not bleached or enriched.

Coffee Grains – Enhances the chocolate flavor

Baking Powder – Helps with the rise of the cake

Baking Soda – Helps with the rise, and neutralizing any acidity flavors

Salt – Enhances the overall flavor of the cake

Cocoa Powder – Adds the chocolate flavor to the cake

Chocolate Chips – Adds chocolate flavor, without adding to much cocoa

Egg – Helps with the rise and texture of the cake

Apple Sauce – Adds moisture and substitutes for some of the oil

Unrefined Cane Sugar – Adds richer flavor, moisture and sweetness to the cake

Avocado Oil – Gives the cake a soft, moist texture

Vanilla Extract – Adds richer flavor to the cake

Whole Milk – Adds moisture and enhances the soft texture of the cake

Hot Water – Adds moisture and enhances the chocolate and coffee flavors
